Stand-up at the Alamo Presents: Shane Hebert, Jay Whitecotton, and Tom Hester
Thursday March 11th
7:30pm
$10

Join us at Lake Creek for a night of live stand-up comedy with comedians Shane Hebert, Jay Whitecotton, and Tom Hester.

Tom Hester (Headliner):
Tom began performing at the age of 15. When he turned 19 he began his professional career. At age 20 he became one of the infamous Outlaw Comics" and his comedy became dark and cutting edge. Tom began to challenge the audience's core belief systems as well as his own. At this point Tom began to grow into an artist not just a stand-up comedian under the strong early influence of Bill Hicks and Sam Kinison.

He began polishing his stand-up routines by touring comedy clubs throughout the United States and in 1991 he won Austin's Funniest Person" and later the Austin Chronicles Critic Choice Award."

His recent work as a producer, writer, director and actor on the no-budget short film A Fist Full of Pills" is a tribute to his stand-up piece also called A Fist Full of Pills" which is currently the #1 requested bit on XM Satellite Radio off his lastest CD Words Are All I Have." The short film was accepted in the 2005 Just For Laughs International Comedy Festival. The film took just a short weekend to shoot with his fellow comedians Tom Rhodes, Slade Ham and Caroline Picard. The film cost no money and is a tribute to Tom's resourcefulness as an artist. He was honored to receive a rare special mention" at the Comedia 2005 Awards.

His recent trips to entertain troops stationed around the world is a testament to his courage and patriotism. Within weeks of 9/11 Tom was on a plane to Germany to lend his comedy to the troops fighting for his right to do it. Soon thereafter he traveled to South Korea, Japan, Italy and Bahrain. Tom performed more than 40 shows in six overseas tours. Tom also is inspired by lending his talent to the civic community and many charitable organizations in the past decade. His latest fundraiser was for The Tsunami Relief Fund at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Jay Whitecotton (feature):
Between being a comedian, musician, and writer Jay Whitecotton is trying to fail at every artistic medium possible. The product of a paranoid schizophrenic mother and alcoholic father, Jay has survived abusive relationships, five years of homelessness, and two shootings. For some reason none of this has found its way in his act as he finds the surreal and absurd far more interesting. An honest performer, Jay's sets are never exactly the same. Depending on his mood at the moment he can veer into obscene taboos, social issues, or abstract philosophy without ever taking himself too seriously. Known for his rampant style Jay has built a strong following of people he refuses to call fans, insisting on knowing them as friends first and foremost. Jay Whitecotton's accomplishments include winning the I'm Some Bunny Special" Contest in 1984 to jamming with amateur porn star Tommy Lee in a music store. He's also won the Texas State University Cheers and Jeers Stand Up Competition as well as a four time finalist in the South West Comedy Competition' always the bridesmaid. Jay's biggest achievement however is getting to see his personal icon Tom Waits perform live. Currently his column Rock, Beats, Paper' can be read in Backbeat Zine, Vent Nation, and Weird Magazine or found online at Echo: The Blog and Lastgascomedy.com, while his pilot FAIL INC.' is in pre production set for release in the spring.

Shane Hebert (Host):
The life of an under appreciated genius child of a stand-up comedian is not an easy one. Sure, you're a genius, and that's fun, but when all of the Hollywood starlets have dissipated you're just another exceptionally attractive ten year old watching PBS's Ghostwriter. Sixteen years and two worthless college degrees later (state school- jealous?) you get something like Shane Hebert. For years the idea of performing lingered in the back of his head as the last great rebellion against his mother. Then, in January of 2006 Shane performed dead last at an open mic for three people (two of which were friends he paid the cover for) and KILLED! The last four years have been an awkward blur of clubs and bars all across the Texas / Louisiana megapolitan hub. If there is a poorly lit room hosting an open mic before Karaoke kicks off at eleven the odds are that Shane's played it and walked away thinking he had a good set. A lifelong student and collector of comedy Shane thinks he knows it all. He's an old soul, a poet, a tortured genius trapped inside of an even more tortured old poet. Truth be told, he's out there every night delivering the truth to the people: airplane travel IS annoying, relationships ARE difficult, and the races, are INDEED, fraught with humorous idiosyncrasies. Give him money and see what happens.

The Intergalactic Nemesis: Episode One, MYSTERY AT KRADMOOR

By popular demand, we're bringing back the most kick-ass Live Action Graphic Novel you've ever seen. Sure, it's the only Live Action Graphic Novel you've ever seen, but so what? This ten-minute chapter introduces Pulitzer-winner Molly Sloan and her intrepid assistant Timmy Mendez. Four-time Academy Award nominee JEFF BRIDGES stars as the richly comic, semi-tragic romantic anti-hero Bad Blake in the debut feature film CRAZY HEART from writer-director Scott Cooper. Bad Blake is a broken-down, hard-living country music singer who's had way too many marriages, far too many years on the road and one too many drinks way too many times. And yet, Bad can't help but reach for salvation with the help of Jean (Golden Globe nominee MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL), a journalist who discovers the real man behind the musician. As he struggles down the road of redemption, Bad learns the hard way just how tough life can be on one man's crazy heart.

This is a restaurant that all of my Dallas friends have raved about; well, a new location has now opened in the Domain, so let's try it out! Event Time : Thursday March 11th, @ 6p Please be at Gloria's by 5:45p so we can be seated promptly!! I believe that Gloria's could be categorized as "Nuevo Mexican"...I have a feeling this will become a hot spot here in Austin. Please make sure to update your RSVP no later than 3 days prior to this event, so that I have an accurate count of attendees...remember, if you RSVP yes and don't show up, someone else didn't get to go that wanted to! Menus: Dinner Menu A reviewer from Yelp gave a glowing review: "Thank God (Gracias a dios) Glorias has arrived in Austin. Tonight Glorias opened (the restaurant was packed) and I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Gloria after being seated at a table next to Gloria and her family. Anyone who has had the pleasure of eating at her restaurants in Dallas knows how lucky we are to have her here with us in Austin. Almost immediately after being seated, you are treated to warm, fresh tortilla chips with her homemade creamy black bean dip and fresh salsa. Delicious. Appetizers include ceviche, quesadillas, tamales, chicken soup - there's something for everyone. For entrees, you will not be disappointed - the food ranges from Tex-Mex (chicken, shrimp or enchiladas verdes), Mexican (fajitas, tacos al carbon, fish tacos), Salva-Tex (pollo asado, chile rellenos) and Salvadorian food (carne asada, quail, pork tenderloin). Tonight we had the Carne Asada and Carne de res Salvatex - both steaks were unbelievably tender and juicy; you have to use the olive oil and garlic seasoned marinate. It's fantastic. The black beans, rice and guacamole and tomato salad are a perfect compliment. Glorias is known for their desserts - flan, tres leches and their famous chocolate flan. Drinks - amazing sangria, margaritas, mojitos - and more Glorias is open Sun to Thurs 11:00am to 10:00pm The kitchen is open 11am - 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays and there is a Live Salsa Band on Saturdays. They will clear the tables and it will take on a club feel with late night salsa dancing. They have a great late night bar area and it will become a destination. It's one of the best things that's happened in northwest Austin in a long time. !Gracias, Gloria! Bienvenidos a Austin"
